Women-in-Research (WiR), Centre for Science Development, Human Sciences Research Council, Pretoria, ZaireWiR "seeks to stimulate discussion on, and address, key issues which affect women researchers. Of particular concern is the serious under-representation of women among senior researchers, heads of departments, senior management and among those who access resources from funding agencies and organisations. The under-representation of women in the research community has resulted in their limited participation in national discourses and research agendas." "WiR aims to Support women, especially black women, to develop and strengthen their research skills. WiR hopes that this will enhance women's contribution to the production and application of knowledge in the humanities and social sciences. Provide opportunities that will increase the number of women in postgraduate studies, academia, research and leadership positions at South African tertiary and research institutions." "Dissolving Barriers: Interactive Technologies and their Impact on the Research Experience of Women Postgraduates. A case study" Faculty of the Built Environmentwww.fbe.unsw.edu.au/units/pgvo/Homepage/CAPA/default.htm "This
research project investigates the efficacy of providing postgraduate women
students with special access to computer technologies enabling their interaction
with the "Global Information Society" (GLIS) . It is understood
that such improved access would help them increase their capabilities as
researchers, academics and professionals. The research presented here focuses
on a short training program funded by CAPA and offered to women students
in the Faculty of the Built Environment at the University of NSW. It forms
part of a wider project undertaken earlier in the year
by several postgraduate women students in the faculty (the authors) to
set up a faculty "virtual office " (FBE-PGVO) for postgraduate
students."
