about WRDOAbout Women in Research Committee The Women in Research Committee (WIRC) was formed in 1992. Over the last six years, this very strong committee, representing some 250 researchers at the university, has been working to change the male oriented research culture within the University. Central to WIRC's concerns are the continuing low percentage of women academics at UNSW (26% in 1997), the even lower proportion of women applying for research funding (11 - 16% for ARC large grants over the last five years), and the poor representation of women within research governance. Since the preparation of an Action Plan in 1994, and the appointment of a Women's Research Development Officer, a number of initiatives have been established. The establishment of a Women in Research website is an extension of these initiatives, and is supported by Professor Chris Fell, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and International). The following women are currently serving on the executive of the Women in Research Committee, and may be contacted regarding issues women of the University wish to raise: |
